En s’imposant aux barres asymétriques lors des Jeux d’Athènes 2004, la petite Française est devenue la première championne olympique de la gymnastique artistique française. La jeune Parisienne avait placé la barre très haute après sa prestation où elle exécute un mouvement très périlleux qu’elle est la seule à tenter sur le circuit mondial.
Elle précédait Svetlana Khorkina, la reine de la gymnastique et double championne olympique à cet agrès. Sans doute impressionné, Khorkina prend des risques et chute. La route de la médaille d’or était ouverte pour Emilie Le Pennec.
Après avoir mis un terme à sa carrière, elle est devenue kinésithérapeute et s’occupe notamment des jeunes gymnastes français.
